I just renewed my licence. Can I continue to use it until it expires?

I am a fresh applicant. What do I need to do to obtain the new Driver’s Licence?

1. Visit an accredited driving school and complete the mandatory drivers training.
2. Obtain a driving school certificate number from the accredited driving school to be used to initiate a fresh application.
3. Access the nigeriadriverslicence.frsc.gov.ng, click on DL Application tab and select New Driver’s Licence Application.
4. Provide your Certificate Number (Which is the number on the certificate provided from the driving school attended) and click on submit.
5. Fill in your application details and submit and make payment.

What happens to a driver’s Licence that have recently expired, Say February 2018?

Initiate Renewal Application from the FRSC DL Portal.

Can I send somebody to an Information Processing Center with my passport photograph and other documents to process my Licence application on my behalf?

No, applicant must be there in Person.

After I supply my information, will I be able to change it later?

Yes, you can change your details, but you will be required to provide relevant supporting documents.

About the portal and its new features

How do I access the portal?

The portal can be accessed at nigeriadriverslicence.frsc.gov.ng.
Note that the previous address at https://www.nigeriadriverslicence.org will automatically redirect users to the new address above.

What is different about the new version?

Applicants can now upgrade their existing licenses to carry multiple classes. For instance, a driver with a class B licence can add a motorcycle class of A to the licence; thereby merging both classes on the same physical card.
The new platform ensures greater security for applicant data.
The new platform also presents a more intuitive and contemporary interface for users.

What is a multiple class licence and how does Licence upgrade support it?

What are classes of licences?

The class of a licence is denoted by an alphabet. It specifies the category of vehicles that the licence holder is permitted to operate. Possible classes are: A, B, C, D, E, F, G. H, J.

What is the difference between a single class and a multiple class licence?

A single class licence carries a single class denotation, while a multiple class licence bears multiple class denotations, but subject to a maximum and three (3) classes.

What is a Licence Upgrade?

An upgrade is an application to modify an existing licence such that its class is changed to a higher one within its category or to have an extra class from another category added to it. Examples are given below:
Moving to a higher class within the current category of a licence: Moving from Class B (Motor Vehicle Private) to a Class E (Motor Vehicle Commercial).
Adding a class from a different category to an existing class: Adding Class A to an existing Class B Licence or Adding Class B to an existing Class A Licence.

How to navigate around the Portal and make an application?

How can I perform operations such as applying for a licence?

The Application process in the new platform remains largely unchanged. The home page is more user friendly and provides a more prominent menu for the different tasks an applicant intends to perform. The menu is located at the top of the home page.

What do I do if I am applying for the first time?

If you are applying for a licence for the first time, select the DL Application menu item. Select New Driver’s Licence under the menu. You must select the category of vehicle of interest. As a fresh applicant, you are only permitted to apply for a maximum of two (2) classes: A and B. If you intend to do so, you must select the Motor Vehicle Class at this point. When the system asks if you have a previous licence, you must answer “No”.

What if I need to renew or replace a stolen/lost licence?

If you already have a Licence and need to renew or reissue, select the DL Application menu item. Under the menu, select Renewal of Driver’s Licence (if you are renewing) or Reissue of Driver’s Licence (if you e reissuing).

How do I upgrade my licence?

Upgrading a licence can be done via the renewal or reissue process (see details in C3 above). You must provide the system with your existing Driver’s Licence Number to proceed. If your current licence is still valid, choose the Reissue option. Choose the Renewal option if your licence has expired. The application form will give you the option of adding/removing classes as permitted by regulations.

How do I apply if I am a diplomat?

To apply for a diplomatic licence, the applicant is required to visit the FRSC Headquarters with the required documentation that confirms the applicant’s status as a diplomat. Diplomatic licences can only be issued from the FRSC HQ.

How do I apply if I am a commercial driver?

Application for Commercial licences are not permitted from the portal home page.
You must visit any of the capture centers with a medical certificate and the required driving school certificate to initiate an application.
The FRSC operator shall initiate commercial licence application process on your behalf.

How do I find my way around the application form?

The form consists of four (4) sections:
Personal Details: Collects applicant’s basic demographic details.
Contact Details: Collects contact information such as email, address, etc.
Processing Centre & Licence Type: Collects information on the centre for applicant’s biometric capture and testing.
Review & Pay: Collects information related to payment.
In every section of the form, you can click the Start Over button to start filling the form afresh from section 1. The Back button takes you to the preceding section. The Next button takes you to the next section.
Pay attention to the Processing Centre & Licence Type section. This is where you can select the validity of your licence and the specific class(es) you require. You can select from the drop down field provided either a 3-year or 5-year validity. For the Licence class drop down field, you can select up to two (2) classes.

What to do if I need to make changes to my application?

You can edit an existing application for as long as payment has not been made against the application. Note however that unpaid applications are purged from the system after 3 months. Applicants should therefore endeavour to submit their applications prior to the 3-month validity period.
To edit an application, click on the Edit Application option on the portal menu. You will need the following to access the application: Application ID/DL Number and Applicant’s Date of Birth.

How do I make payment against my application?

Payment for an application is initiated and can be completed on the Application Acknowledgment section of your application form.
You must choose a preferred payment option. The options include:

Pay at bank (cash) option: Use this option if you intend to make cash payment at a bank. You can pick this option by selecting Innovate1pay Bank or PayArena option on the Order Summary page.

Web option (with debit/credit card): Use this option if you possess a credit/debit card and intend to make payment online. You can pick this option by selecting Visa or MasterCard option on the Order Summary.

POS Option: Use this option if you possess a credit/debit card and intend to make payment on a PoS Terminal. This option will require you to visit the Drivers’ Licence Centre (DLC) you selected in your application form. You can pick this option by selecting Innovate1 Pay POS or Point of Sale (POS) option on the Order Summary page. You must bring along your Transaction Number from the portal to the DLC.

Making payment Using eWallet: Use this option if you possess a NetPostPay (NPP) eWallet account. An eWallet accounts lets you prefund a virtual wallet that you can use for payment purposes on supported platforms. You can open an eWallet account by visiting https://netpostpay.com/. To pay with your NPP eWallet against your application, select the NetPostPay option on the Order Summary page.

How to track my application status?

To track the status of your application, select the Track DL Application Status option on the portal menu. You must supply your application ID or DL Number and Date of Birth to access the status.
